STRIKE!

Surprise strike cripples Cebu transport

The transport groups, led by the Nagkahiusang Drayber sa Sugbo (Nadsu), earlier announced that they will only conduct a protest march from Fuente Osmeña to the regional office of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 yesterday to oppose the 300 percent increase in fees of traffic violations.

I think, there really is nothing wrong with it. If the drivers will just follow the laws, then there will be no reason for them to pay the fine. I think, this is one of the ways to discipline the people with regards to traffic rules and laws. SEE?

“For now, I urged you to follow the traffic rules to avoid paying the stiffer penalties,” said Aguiluz, adding that since the implementation of the order on March 2, the LTO has noticed a much orderly and disciplined jeepney drivers around the city.

Meanwhile, the transport strike did not please Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, who immediately ordered the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7 and the LTO 7 to cancel the franchise of the operators and the licenses of the drivers who joined the action yesterday.

But I think, Mr. Mayor is too harsh. If the authorities will confiscate the license and franchise of operators, surely, another strike will occur, or maybe something greater or chaotic. Not just that! Lots of people depend on jeepneys as a mean of transportation. Students and workers, and commuters alike will have a hard time in going to school or the workplace. So, Mr. Mayor, calm down..

Suggestion: They better have their rallies/protests/strike on a Saturday and surprises. OKIE? xp
